TestMate is a field-workspace app designed for electricians. This policy explains how personal information is handled when you use the TestMate app, website, beta programme or support services.

For privacy questions or requests, contact support@testmateapp.com.

Information we may handle

Information entered into TestMate may include:

  • Engineer and business profile details, including names, company information, contact details, scheme information and registration numbers.

  • Customer, property and job information.

  • Site notes, photographs, videos, voice recordings and transcripts.

  • Electrical test results, observations, work records and signatures.

  • Property Memory entries, reminders, follow-ups and materials used.

  • Files that you choose to import from or export to other services.

  • Support messages, feedback and voluntarily submitted TestFlight diagnostics.

The website’s hosting and security providers may also process basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, requested pages and access times.

Local-first storage

TestMate is designed to keep most job and property information locally on the user’s device. TestMate does not currently provide an automatic TestMate cloud account or automatic cloud synchronisation.

Information may leave the device when the user deliberately:

  • Uses speech recognition or dictation.

  • Uses an AI-powered analysis feature.

  • Sends feedback or diagnostics.

  • Shares or exports a report, backup, photograph or other file.

  • Imports or exports information through the Tradify Bridge.

  • Uses Apple services such as TestFlight or system sharing.

Users control when these actions take place.

How we use information

Information may be used to:

  • Provide and operate TestMate’s features.

  • Save, organise and recover the user’s work.

  • Generate reports, task sheets, summaries and exported documents.

  • Process optional speech-recognition and AI requests.

  • Respond to support enquiries and beta feedback.

  • Diagnose faults, improve reliability and protect the service.

  • Meet legal, regulatory or security obligations.

The applicable lawful basis may include performance of a contract, legitimate interests in operating and improving TestMate, compliance with legal obligations and consent where consent is required.

TestMate does not sell personal information or use customer and job content for third-party advertising.

Optional AI and speech features

When a user deliberately submits content for AI analysis, the selected text, image or related job context may be sent securely to our AI service provider, currently OpenAI, so that the requested result can be produced.

AI output may be incomplete or inaccurate. Users must review it before relying on it, adding it to a job or sharing it.

Dictation and speech-recognition features may use Apple services. Depending on the device, operating-system version and settings, speech data may be processed on the device or by Apple.

Avoid submitting information that is not needed for the requested feature.

Photographs, video and audio

TestMate only accesses the camera, photo library, microphone or speech-recognition service after the user selects the relevant feature and grants the required system permission.

Permissions can be reviewed or withdrawn through iOS Settings. Withdrawing a permission may prevent the related feature from working but does not remove information already saved by the user.

Customer and property information

Electricians and businesses using TestMate decide what information they record about their customers, properties and work.

Users are responsible for:

  • Recording only information that is reasonably necessary.

  • Giving customers or other individuals any privacy information required by law.

  • Obtaining permission before recording people or private conversations.

  • Protecting exported reports, backups, photographs and videos.

  • Removing information when it is no longer required.

Third-party services

TestMate may interact with:

  • Apple, for app distribution, TestFlight, device permissions, speech services and diagnostics.

  • OpenAI, when an AI-powered feature is deliberately used.

  • Framer, which hosts the TestMate website.

  • Cloudflare, which provides domain, DNS and security services.

  • Email and support providers used to answer enquiries.

  • Tradify files selected by the user for import or export.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

The Tradify Bridge currently uses user-selected files and handover packages. It is not represented as live account synchronisation or an official Tradify partnership unless TestMate expressly states otherwise.

International processing

Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, appropriate contractual or legal safeguards are used to protect that information.

Retention and deletion

Locally stored job information remains on the user’s device until the user edits it, archives it, deletes it, removes the app or restores different data.

User-created backups and exported documents remain wherever the user saves or sends them until the user deletes them.

Support messages, beta feedback and related records are retained only for as long as reasonably required to respond, improve the product, protect security or meet legal obligations.

Security and backups

TestMate uses reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information. No device, transmission or storage method is completely secure.

Users should:

  • Protect their device with a passcode or biometric security.

  • Keep iOS and TestMate updated.

  • Create regular TestMate backups.

  • Store and share exported files securely.

  • Delete obsolete backups and reports.

TestMate cannot recover locally stored information unless the user has retained a usable backup.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may provide rights to:

  • Request access to personal information.

  • Correct inaccurate information.

  • Request deletion.

  • Restrict certain processing.

  • Object to certain processing.

  • Request portable information.

  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

Requests can be sent to support@testmateapp.com.

You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

For information recorded independently by an electrician or electrical business, contact that business first because it controls the relevant customer or job record.

Children

TestMate is intended for professional and trade use. It is not designed for children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as TestMate develops. Material changes will be published on this page and the “Last updated” date will be revised.
